This film is a thing of beauty.

Spoilers under the cut.

First of all, I'm so happy that I managed to see this film without being spoiled first. I've been spoiled for way too many things I've been excited about (Thor, Captain America, the SPN season six finiale - and, no, I'm not letting that one got any time soon) that it's just really nice to see something without the surprise being ruined.

And, damn, there were a few big surprises!

Where to start, where to start...

How about with Bruce Banner, since I'm not usually that big a fan of Bruce or the Hulk? I was surprised by how much I liked him. Mark Ruffalo was insanely good, especially in his scenes with Black Widow and Tony. Actually, I'm pretty sure I loved all his scenes with the others. I also I liked how his character knew damn well that there was a 99% of the Avengers working together ending in a great big disaster. The Hulk himself was brilliant. Oh, and the reveal that he's always angry? YES.

Speaking of Black Widow, can I just have a round of applause for the fact that a female character was written who had a deep connection with a male character, and it doesn't completely define her? I loved her relationship with Hawkeye (UST, close friendship, I keep going back and forth and I love that I don't know).

Hawkeye! Sorry, I'm half in love with Hawkeye for several reasons (and one of them is probably Jeremy Renner). I love that the trailers didn't spoil that he ends up under Loki's control for half the film. And, like I said before, I love his relationship with Black Widow. There needs to be a film about Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Oh, Thor. Hopefully he's finally realised that he can't save Loki. I did love his developing friendship with Steve, especially as it contrasts with their first meeting when they pretty much level the woods.

Ah, Tony, you and your massive ego got the best lines. Although he did make me tear up when he was going through the portal and tried to call Pepper, only for her to not pick up because she was watching what was happening on the TV. I was stupidly worried about whether he would survive, despite the fact that I know there's going to be an Iron Man 3.

Steve arguing with Tony is probably one of my favourite things ever. I love how he takes charge and gives everyone orders once they realise that they really have to work together or the entire world is screwed. He's so aodrably confused by modern things (apparently most references escape him, and him just saying that it appears to run on electricity).

And Steve brings me very nicely to...

Coulson. Oh, honey. :( I've loved him in every film and his death absolutely gutted me. Him and his little collection of Captain America trading cards... :'( If he turns out to actually be dead, I'll never be able to watch any of his scenes in the earlier films without wanting to cry.

So, long story short, it's a brilliant film that manages to have great characters, breathtaking action scenes, laugh out loud moments and doesn't feel anywhere near as long as it actually it.

My advice to the people getting the shitty quality cam downloads? Wait. It's well worth it.
