There aren’t as many new demons now. They all just shuffle along, resigned to their fate. Every so often one of them will snap, and they’ll be sent out to be found and exorcised by the first hunter they run in to. Crowley has no time the idiots who want to torture because it’s fun. He prefers to torture for knowledge, for information that’s never withheld for very long after he begins.

It’s more fun that way.

Adam watches from the edge of the table, fingers resting at the edge of the blood that’s still flowing from the vampire, eyes wide and curious. Almost innocent. Crowley wonders what would have happened if John Winchester had been cruel enough to teach Adam how to hunt. Maybe he would have known how manipulative the angels are, how low they can stoop, lower than any demons Crowley has ever me. Maybe Adam wouldn’t have said yes to Crowley as quickly as he said yes to the angels. But maybes don’t do anything in this world, and Crowley likes to work with what he has, to lay out his cards and get a good look at everything he holds. Hell. A boy who may not share the surname, but shares the blood, and family’s always meant a lot to them.

“What do you want me to do?” Adam asks and, oh yes, he’s going to be so useful.

A Winchester, although most of the other demons, the other people, don’t know it. The angels showed some signs of intelligence in keeping that quiet. His soul’s intact, but damaged enough to make a difference, and sometimes he trembles when he remembers the Cage; damaged enough to make his eyes shine black when Crowley reaches across the table and runs a bloody finger across his lower lip. Adam’s tongue darts out instinctively and he licks the blood from his lip and Crowley’s finger. Such a Winchester. Crowley’s never been a bleeding heart, though; he prefers to make others bleed.

“Watch carefully,” Crowley said, “because I’m only going to show you this once.”

Ten minutes later, the vampire is screaming and Crowley smiles as he watches Adam work. Later, he’s going to bend Adam over the table, but for now they’ve got some work to finish. After all, he can’t let Adam go without getting some sort of revenge on the brothers who abandoned him, can he? And if Crowley gets a little more to hold over the angel, then that’s even better.

Adam looks up, face spattered with blood, and smiles, the black fading from his eyes, and Crowley lets his lips curve in a small smile that’s equal parts threat and promise. He pushes the boy, the demon, the Winchester up against the table, knowing that the blood dripping off the table’s going to stain the jacket, and kisses him, biting on his lip just hard enough to taste blood.

There aren’t as many new demons now, and Crowley has no time for the idiots, but he does like to play favourites. Even more so when Adam’s going to be very useful at some point in the future, and Crowley always likes to hide some cards when he plays with the Winchesters. You never know when they’ll come in handy.
